David Boyes, who served as Fire Chief for the Grand Fire Protection District No. 1 for 21 years, has been relieved of his duties as fire chief and district administrator for the district due to the Board of Director’s decision to change the direction and management of the Granby Fire Department during a special meeting, according to a press release from Schelly Olson, public information officer for the district.
Boyes started working for the department in 1981 as a volunteer firefighter and moved up the ranks to attain the position as fire chief. The district did not release specifics surrounding the decision, saying it was following “legal counsel.”
James Cautrell was appointed to the position of Interim Fire Chief while the district begins the process of hiring a permanent fire chief and district manager.
“These changes will in no way affect the immediate and professional response of the Granby Fire Department to any emergency calls within the District or any mutual aid calls from neighboring agencies,” according to the press release.
