Grand County approves retail pot regs
December 12, 2013
HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS – Grand County commissioners have approved retail marijuana regulations.
The regulations won’t be effective until Jan. 1, 2014, and only apply to unincorporated portions of the county. The laws were largely based on those passed by the city and county of Denver, with a few exceptions.
Like the Denver regulations, pot shops can’t operate within 1,000 feet of schools, churches and childcare centers. But unlike Denver laws, marijuana facilities don’t need a buffer between them.
Also unlike Denver, the county’s fees for both retail and medical marijuana facilities are $500 across the board. The fee covers cultivation facilities, manufacturing facilities, testing facilities, warehouses as well as transfers of ownership and location. Comparatively, Denver’s fees range from $150 to $5,000. These local fees are in addition to state application fees.
