Letter: Conservative groups didn’t plan Grand Lake’s Constitution Week
Ryan Summerlin September 25, 2013
To the Editor:
In answer to Cindy Kleth’s letter of last Friday, yes the speakers were conservatives from conservative institutions.
The audiences were also mostly conservative. It needs to be made clear that neither the Grand County Republicans nor the High Country Conservatives had any influence on the planning or arranging of the week’s events.
The week is intended to bring people to Grand Lake to celebrate the U.S. Constitution.
Just as liberal-minded college instructors can present a balanced and scholarly classroom to their students, so did these speakers make rational and scholarly presentations. Anyone who actually heard the talks would have seen this to be true.
Find us a liberal scholar for next year, and we’ll see if they are as fair and informative as this year’s speakers.
Small-minded personal attacks on the speakers and topics do a great injustice to the hard work of the Constitution Week committee. This is a truly patriotic celebration that reflects the spirit of Grand Lake and will continue to grow every year.
