Letter: Mitigation agreement provides tangible benefits to local rivers
May 9, 2014
To the Editor:
As owners of a resort here in the Fraser Valley, we understand the unparalleled importance of healthy streams and rivers to both our local economy and the quality of life for all who live and recreate here.
The recent agreement between Grand County, Trout Unlimited, and Denver Water provides monitoring and protections for the Fraser River as part of the Moffat diversion project. The agreement is the result of complex issues being negotiated over several years, and includes tangible benefits for the Fraser and major tributaries, such as Ranch Creek, in the future. Ongoing stream monitoring, dedicated funding, and availability of resources provide the data and wherewithal to address habitat and streamflow issues that will vary over time.
Thanks to the parties mentioned for doing the hard work to forge this pragmatic solution to keep the Fraser River flowing and healthy.
