Letter: Republican not impressed with progress of own party
Ryan Summerlin May 6, 2014
To the Editor:
Dear Speaker Boehner and fellow Republicans: I have been a Republican all of my life and I have just turned 80 years old. I grew up in the little mountain town of Granby. All the neighbors pitched in to see that we were properly raised. Good neighbors, good friends.
I am very disgusted with the Republican Party, those both in the House and Senate. You have accomplished nothing in the past six years. You talk big but do nothing. You passed the Obama Bill without even reading it, and look what a mess it has made. You have talked big about closing the border — nothing to date. You talked big about the four Americans killed overseas and who was responsible for their security — nothing has been done to the present time. I doubt if you remember prior to World War II, but we sent tons of scrap iron to Japan. They, in turn, made bombs from the scrap and used it on us. Now we are sending tons and tons of scrap iron to China. Will they, in turn, give it back to us in warfare?
We are now buying lots of commodities from China, while the people in the U.S. are willing to make these things. They may cost a little more, but put our people back to work and get them off of welfare.
All you seem to do in Washington, D.C. is to live in luxurious houses, have extravagant parties, and live the life of Riley. And you want me to contribute money to your cause?
Why did we fight World War II if you, in turn, are leaving the borders open? Why are we shipping our scrap iron to China and why are we buying commodities from China that we are capable of making here in the U.S. rather than having all of these people on unemployment? Why are you shutting down our coal mines (because of pollution) and sending coal to China to pollute their atmosphere? Why are we sending money to foreign countries when they hate our guts? We could certainly use the money to help the unfortunate people in the good-old USA?
