Library and technology intern share win-win

Cody Charland, a junior at Middle Park High School, has applied his technology knowledge and skills while gaining valuable work experience during his summer technology internship for Grand County Library District.
Many public library services rely on technology, and having Cody assist with day-to-day technology operations has been helpful to both library staff and customers.
One library service enhancement that will launch soon as a direct result of Cody’s participation in the technology department is a new online room reservation system. Cody’s work on this project ranged from selection to configuration of the reservation system while trying to keep a balance of function and ease of use for customers.
Beyond the behind-the-scenes technology operations, Cody’s customer-service skills impressed his supervisor, Director of Technology Shelly Kilgas.
On Monday nights at the Granby Library, Cody tutored library customers on an array of mobile devices: iPads, Kindle Fires, and Nooks. Many grateful customers praised and admired Cody’s helpfulness, politeness, and mobile device instincts.
Grand County Library District appreciates the input from Middle Park High School staff for recommending Cody, such a capable student, for the library’s technology internship position.
“With Cody’s technology and thinking skills and his ease in interacting with people, he is undoubtedly headed for a bright future, and maybe his future will involve libraries,” according to library staffers.
