The Grand County Blues Society (GCBS) presents the 11th Annual Blues From the Top that will be held June 27-30. Music starts with Thursday night in the Park, Rick Estrin and the Nightcats and other surprise guests. Friday early evening, Andy Irvine will be doing his all star line up outside Smokin Moe’s and Friday night the oldest son of Muddy Waters, Mud Morganfield / Kate Moss will be joining Rick Estrin and the Nightcats for the traditional pre fest pre party at Smokin Moe’s.
“When I came up with the blues festival idea it was to be an event for locals around July 4. We always had to stay home while the valley was overrun by tourists. I wanted the people that live here owning an event that was about them,” said John Catt, of Blue Star Connection. “Having local businesses pitch in because they care about the event says it all.”
Saturday, June 29, at 9:30 a.m., Austin Young kicks off the festival. Australia’s Kara Grainger makes her first Colorado appearance, Albert Castiglia , Rick Estrin and the Nightcats, Mud Morganfield/Kate Moss, Joanne Shaw Taylor will play as well.
Sunday, June 30, Maddy Lutz/Jack Hadley/Big Jim Adam Gospel, Sena Ehrhartd, Southern Hospitality, Zac Harmon, Lucky Peterson, Mike Zito and the Wheel will be playing the event.
Both days will feature the Future of the Blues stage, where teens from all over the country come to show off their up and coming talents.
“What really makes BFTT cool is seeing all the residents hanging out together enjoying their festival,” Catt said.
The GCBS is looking for sponsors who will receive benefits year around for helping with the festival.
Tickets go on sale Monday April 1, a two day pass is $30, single days are $20. Ticket prices go up May 1 so make sure you get your tickets early. Tickets are available at grandblues.org and at the Radio Shack in Fraser.
