Mary Jane makeover
October 19, 2016
The base area at Mary Jane is in the process of being renovated to modernize and accommodate the popularity of the beloved terrain at Winter Park Resort. Large doors are being installed to aid egress to the deck. The doors will open from the main seating area.
Winter Park Resort Director of Public Relations and Communications Steve Hurlbert said the deck at the Mary Jane base area has become very popular, and the building was long over-due for a renovation. Hurlbert said they are trying to renovate the building, while maintaining the Mary Jane atmosphere that locals and visitors have come to love.
Other improvements include an automatic front entrance door, the addition of a hydration station (like the one locate in Lunch Rock), the lighting has been converted to LED, new carpet, paint and deck furniture, including custom-made dining tables inside.
"Aesthetically, it will feel very much like Lunch Rock, which makes sense," said Hurlbert.
"This is the first major work we've done to Mary Jane Market since the early 1990s, which is pretty exciting."
Access to Mary Jane is under renovation as well. If you have ever entered the Mary Jane road from US Highway 40, you may have noticed it can often be in rough shape. Construction crews have added a concrete drain pan to the entrance to help facilitate proper drainage and mitigate potholes. They have also added recycled asphalt to the road to help patch the rough spots. The recycled asphalt came from the Berthoud Pass repaving project.
