Cathie Hook has been the executive director of the Greater Granby Area Chamber of Commerce for three years. Her biggest challenge during these three years: finding volunteers.

With a small staff, she is charged with bringing tourism to Granby, helping chamber members, and building the Main Street program. “I love meeting people and developing relationships. I have two favorite events: Trick or Treat on Main Street and the ice fishing tournament.”

Like all of Grand County’s chambers, Hook expects a crazy, busy summer.

“Last July visitation in the Visitor Center was up 50 percent,” she said.

On A Friday in Summer, what is your day like?

I juggle answering phone calls, greeting visitors, marketing events and taking care of members. Our Farmers/Artists markets are on Fridays in late summer, and so that is a busy and fun day for us as we organize and greet vendors, musicians and the public. Our farmers markets were incredibly successful last year, and we are looking forward to fruits and veggies from Palisade, lots of talented artists, and some great live music.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

I’ll preface this by saying we have an amazing group of volunteers who help with events, sit on our Board, and steer our committees, but still, the most challenging part of my job is getting volunteers. It’s impossible to have a successful event or reach your goals without the support of those who unselfishly give you their time and share their expertise.

What is your favorite part about your job?

There are many things that I love about my job, but if I have to say one thing it is feeling like the Chamber/Visitors Center/Main Street program makes a difference in Granby. From Main Street beautification to our signature events, to member retention and support, I have been given the opportunity to serve my community and local business in a way that makes me proud of our organization and what we have accomplished over the last few years.
