Mark Stephen Bohn was born on Oct. 1, 1950, in Hopkinsville, Ky. and died on March 28, 2014, in Golden, Colo., following a yearlong illness. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lillian and Mose Bohn.
Mark received his BS degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1972, and his MS degree (1973) and PhD. (1976) in mechanical engineering from California Institute of Technology. In the late 1970s, he moved to Golden to work at SERI (now NREL), and in 1981, co-founded Rentech Inc., a company in Denver, specializing in renewable energy processes. He served as president of Rentech Services Corporation and also developed and managed the Rentech research and development facility.
Mark retired from Rentech in 2005, after which he briefly served as an instructor at Colorado School of Mines, and co-authored a textbook for engineering students. He spent much of his retirement time enjoying skiing, bicycling, motorcycling, hiking, and running. In 2011, he began volunteering as a ski instructor with the National Sports Center for the Disabled at the Winter Park, Colo., ski resort, and in January 2012 was certified as professional ski instructor.
Mark is survived by his sister Mary, of Lakewood, Wash., several aunts and uncles, and many cousins. Memorial donations in Mark’s name may be made to: The National Sports Center for the Disabled, 1801 Mile High Stadium Circle, Suite #1500, Denver, CO 80204.
