Obituary: Betty Joann Wood, Aug. 6, 1934 – Dec. 10, 2013
January 1, 2014
Betty Joann Wood, longtime resident of Boulder, Colo., left us on Tuesday Dec. 10, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Beloved daughter of Fred and Mildred Amos, she was 79 years of age when she joined her husband, Roger Wood, who passed away in 1993. She is survived by her children, Dana Elizabeth Wood of Denver and Jeffrey Scott Wood of Oakland. Prior to moving to Boulder, she had resided for many years in Pacific Palisades, Calif. She was born on August 6, 1934, in Augusta, Kan., though she spent most of her childhood in Oklahoma City, Okla. In addition to her regular home, she was lucky enough to spend many summers at her cabin in Grand Lake, Colo., and it is there she will be laid to rest when winter gives way to warmer weather.
Friends and loved ones remember Betty as an outgoing and vivacious woman, who adored her children and their friends, and opened her home to all as if they were family. An avid lover of dogs, Betty was an amazing cook, she excelled at all number of games and puzzles, and a book was never far from her reach. She loved working in her garden, which was both beautiful and bountiful. In her later years, she began doting on her grandchildren, Tara Elizabeth Wood and Spencer Jason Wood, both of Oakland, Calif.
She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. A celebration of her life will be held in Grand Lake, Colo., during the summer of 2014, at the time of year she loved, in a place she loved, when her friends and family can join together. In lieu of flowers, we request donations to the Alzheimer Association or to your local animal shelter in the name of Betty Wood.
