Letter: Supposed boycott on Juniper Library is misguided

To the Editor:

The Juniper Library in Grand Lake is suffering the consequences of last November’s election and the subsequent decisions made by the administrator and board of directors of the Grand County Library District. Juniper Library has gone from a thriving, very busy library to a ghost of its former self. Most of our familiar and favorite librarians are gone, the days and hours of service have been significantly reduced, our programs are gone, the computers for public use are gone, and the library has very few patrons who come through the doors.

After a heated discussion at a meeting of local Grand Lake residents and talking with other (now former patrons), it became quite evident that there is so much anger and fear among the residents that our local Juniper Library may suffer the same fate as Grand Lake Elementary. It seems that people are actually boycotting our Juniper Library. If there is, in fact, a boycott, then we are shooting ourselves in the foot and ensuring that the library will be seen as not being needed in Grand Lake anymore.

We Grand Lakers need to support our library and not boycott it. It is decisions made by the Grand County Library District that have created our Juniper Library issues, not the library itself. Let’s continue to support our library and keep it as a vital part of our Grand Lake community.
