Letter: Samaritan Ministries dissolves its nonprofit

To the Editor:

Samaritan Ministries would like to inform our community that we have dissolved our nonprofit organization and are no longer providing services.

Over the last 30 years, Samaritan Ministries has made an indelible mark on thousands of individuals and families in Grand County. The love and encouragement offered, as well as emergency financial assistance, changed their lives and attitudes. Some life changes were permanent and some were “seeds,” planted to grow at a later time in their lives. It was a privilege to plant those seeds knowing God’s timing is the best. God instructed us to love our neighbors, not judge our neighbors. Samaritan Ministries strived mightily to do so for three decades.

The steadfast support of many Grand County churches has been essential to this ministry. On behalf of countless clients who received shelter, heat, water, food, gas, medical and dental care, we sincerely thank our churches and Changes Thrift Store for your financial and emotional support.

Samaritan Ministries has now dissolved. We thank God for the privilege of helping our neighbors. Our volunteers are committed to the needs of our community and will move on to other endeavors.

We want to thank you for your support over the years, and hope that you will support other local nonprofits that will step up to fill the gap that Samaritan leaves behind.

Cathy Childress

Granby

Editor’s Note: Asked why the nonprofit is no longer, Childress said: “We struggled for years with obtaining adequate volunteers. The ones we had were on call 24 hours a day for weeks at a time. It was taking an emotional and physical toll on them. We took a six month leave of absence and upon return, decided that there were other nonprofit organizations that could pick up where we left off. It was not an easy decision.”
