To the Editor:
Fraser Valley Partnership for Trails, your local volunteer multi-use trail organization, recently held their annual Duck Race. This year 875 ducks raced in St. Louis Creek in heats plus the final float for the winners. The winning duck was adopted by Kirk Klancke, who generously donated half of the $250 of prize money back to the Fraser Valley Trails group and the other half to Headwaters Trails Association, our county-wide trails organization. Other fast ducks were adopted by Julie George, Lynda Parker, Simon Levett, Sally Drescher and John Wieseler. The race raised $3000, which supports local trails.
Money raised from duck races is used for grooming the winter use Fraser River Trail and the Fraser-to-Granby Trail, and for raw materials for trails and financial support of National Public Lands Day.
The board of the Fraser Valley Partnership for Trails would like to thank Kirk Klancke, Bill Chambers, Cheryl Shaul and all the local businesses that donated 45 prizes for our event. They are: Winter Park Resort, Snow Mountain Ranch/YMCA of the Rockies, Pole Creek Golf Course, Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Ski Granby Ranch, Winter Park Trading Co., Home James, Christy Sports, Adventures in Rafting Totally Wired Cyclery, Christina Russell Massage, Backcountry Bound, Grand Sports, lce Box Sports, Rudi’s Deli, Fraser Valley Hot Dog, Carvers, Winter Park Framewerx, Elevation Pizza ,Strip & Tail, The Library, De Antonio’s, Mountain Grind and Mountain Dawg Outfitters.
