Letter: Failure to stock fish partly to blame for Lake Granby kokanee problems

To the Editor:

Regarding The 12-20-13 Article Lake Granby Kokanee are dwindling: We are at the bottom of a normal cycle for Lake Granby. Continuous high water years create tough conditions for Kokanee. We saw this coming several years ago and took action to harvest more smaller Lake Trout to help balance their numbers through tournament prizes, educating anglers etc. Granby’s Rainbows have dwindled also, we are at historical low rainbow stocks due to the CPW’s failure to stock our lakes and Granby has been the hardest hit. Rainbows come clear from Rifle as we have no hatchery in the area. Last year no rainbows were stocked until June 15, and then only 2,000 catchables, hundreds of shore anglers on Memorial Day and no rainbows. The DPW’s failure of stocking Granby’s fair share of Rainbows has added to Granby’s problems
