To the Editor:
The Middle Park Times back in 1927 reported a community party that was “good crowds, good music and as usual good eats,” and it could just as well have described the Historical Holiday Celebration at the Kauffman House Museum on Dec. 26.
The food was plentiful and amazing, with Blue Water Bakery’s delicious mini quiches, EGs’ astonishing salmon and chicken canapés, Sagebrush BBQ & Grill’s yummy wild game sausage and mustard dipping sauce, lovely deli trays from Circle 3, a huge assortment of hors d’oeuvres from Mountain Food Market, our favorite deviled eggs from The Rapids, wonderful desserts from Sloopy’s and Betty’s, and more from the talented cooks of the Grand Lake Area Historical Society. Wassail and donations of wine from Grand Lake Wine and Spirits, Pancho & Lefty’s, Mountain Lake Properties, Grand Pizza and, especially, The Gateway, made the evening so very festive.
We can’t say enough about the musicians who donated their talents and a great amount of time to play old-timey favorites all evening and make the party so much fun. Huge thanks to Geoff Elliott, Vince Camilla, Krys Boy, Craig Currant, Betty and Trent Corbin, Sarah Clements, Dan McGrail and flutist Connie. The “Kauffman Combo” is the best. Special thanks to Amanda Debevec and Ryleigh Sutcliffe whose volunteering added so much to the event.
Thanks too to all who attended, and by doing so donated to the Smith Eslick Cottage Camp Campaign, our ongoing effort to restore the oldest original condition “motor court” and repurpose as an interactive museum.
All in all, it was a terrific evening and a great way to finish off the Christmas season, made possible by all the community members who worked so hard to make it happen. Thank you.
