Second Change Order approved for WP stage

The Winter Park Town Council has approved a second Change Order for the Hideaway Park Stage in the amount of $61,833.
The contract amount agreed to on September 7 was for $3,375,265.
The first Change Order was approved on October 18 for an amount of $34,342 bringing the contract to $3,409,607. The second Change Order Request includes revisions to the front stage steps and the addition of a solid surface "dance area" to the front of the stage. The changes come as improvements to the original scope of work have been identified.
According to the memorandum introduced to the Winter Park Town Council on November 1, following a visit to the Performance Pavilion in Avon, the staff is seeking the addition of a paved assembly area in front of the stage. This area was originally to have grass and sod, but this type of treatment is the most difficult for staff to maintain over the course of the season. The area is often soggy and wet due to irrigation. Heavy use during the weekend events compacts the soil making it difficult to maintain grass. The improvement includes moving the trench drain to the immediate front of the stage to improve drainage from the snow melt system. It is expected that the paved area will enhance the patron experience and will lower long-term maintenance costs for the town, according to the memorandum.
The change order is estimated to cost $50,000, which is an estimate of the maximum amount.
Per executed contract, Big Valley Construction receives a six percent cost of the work fee to cover overhead and other costs, which equals $3,500. The total for the change order is $61,833.
Winter Park received an additional 10 percent above the Guaranteed Maximum Price for the entire stage project as part of their loan approval for situations like this.
