Slash piles near Winter Park to be burned
Ryan Summerlin January 31, 2013
The U.S. Forest Service will burn slash piles near Winter Park on Thursday, Jan. 31. The site is located along Moffat Road (FSR 149) east of U.S. Highway 40 and contains hand piles remaining from the Arrow Fuels Reduction Project.
The area is covered in more than a foot of snow and it is currently snowing. Ignition is expected to take place before noon. Wind, fuel moisture and snow cover all play a factor in where and whether ignition occurs.
Burning elsewhere around the Sulphur Ranger District will continue during the coming weeks as conditions allow. For more information, call the Sulphur Ranger District office, 970-887-4100.
