Snow Mountain hosts student bike race
Ryan Summerlin September 21, 2012
The 2012 Snow Mountain Ranch Stampede bike race will take place on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. Race participants are high school students, and this will be the second race of the league series.
This high altitude course is adjacent to a 2,800 acre Conservation Easement and is centered on the Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic center.
The course begins on a fast double track that parallels Pole Creek onto a twisty single track that winds up through a colorful aspen grove. Once through the aspens, the trail pops back onto double track to climb a hill where riders are rewarded with a descent into a left turn through a lodge pole pine forest.
The course contours along the biathlon range before crossing a dam to a challenging rock garden and single track climb up to Columbine Point. From here the trail turns to a meandering descent back through aspen. Riders will experience a refreshing creek crossing less than one mile before the finish, back to the Nordic Center. This course is approximately 5.2 miles with approximately 466 feet feet of climbing per lap.
