Sanders: Races this weekend, Epic Singletrack, group rides
June 23, 2016
Wait it's June 24 already!!! All the more reason to get out on the bike and check out some trails and events! This weekend is the 2nd race of the Epic Singletrack Race Series (Epicsingletrack.com) and the course is the extremely popular Super Loop. Racers of all ages and abilities will test their skills or lack thereof Saturday morning on some of our iconic trails such as Blue Sky, Ice Hill, Serenity and Lower Arapahoe. The Epic Singletrack Series is one of the best race series in the country and we are so fortunate to have it right here in Winter Park. Over the years there have been some world class cyclist who not only started their race careers there and still continue to pop in occasionally when they have a stop in Colorado. Alex Howes who will be in this year's Tour de France on the Cannondale team started his racing here. Last year after his Tour de France ride Alex raced on in the Epic Singletrack Series after riding over Rollins Pass from Boulder for a warm up the day before.
Last week was our first Tuesday night trail work night with Grand Mountain Bike Alliance and Headwaters Trails Alliance. The volunteers did a lot of work on the wet areas of Yankee Doodle and would have done more if it wasn't for a thunderstorm rumbling above their heads. Check out their work when you get a chance. After all it is a great excuse to get out and ride. They'll be doing more work every Tuesday (meet at 4:45 p.m. at the HTA office in Fraser).
Mountain Bike Capital
The summer wouldn't be the same without the Mountain Bike Capital Weekend! This year it takes place July 9 and 10 at Hideway Park. For more info go to Mountainbikecapitalusa.com There will be guided rides, skills clinics, mechanical clinic, how to buy a bike and lots more. You can even ride with local legend Alison Powers (the only women to hold three national cycling titles in the same year). Part of Saturday's event will be the Rendezvous Race Course which is the 3rd race of the Epic Singletrack Series. This is one of the most popular courses of any race event.
Beavers Sports Shop is starting their weekly group rides at 6 p.m. Friday, June 17. The ride is open to anyone of intermediate ability and above. The pace is determined and type of trails are determined by the group. Come join us! Call 970-726-5988 for more info.
