Shining Star 5K, half marathon results
September 23, 2016
Shining Stars held a fun, community event on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Grand Park in Fraser.
"We are really pleased with turn out and number of people who ran," said Ryndi Zastrow, Program-Event Coordinator for Shining Stars Foundation.
Several community members and organizations came out to volunteer for the event including the Middle Park High School football team. The team offered great support towards the finish line encouraging runners with great signs such as "Free High-Fives".
"We loved having the football team here," said Zastrow.
"All their coaches were out there cheering, too. We appreciated that they all took a Saturday to come out and cheer."
The trees were just starting to turn which made for spectacular scenery during both the 5K and half marathon race. The 5K and half marathon course ran through a residential area in Winter Park and into the Arapaho National Forest.
"We are grateful to the town of Winter Park and the Forest Service who made the process easy for us," she said.
Next year the event will be held on August 5, which will coincide with the Winter Park Beer Festival.
This event, along with others they held this year, Shining Stars Foundation will be able to serve 70 new families, which is quite a jump from last year, said Zastrow.
"Thank you to racers, volunteers and sponsor. We are grateful to everyone who supported the race."
