Winter Park Competition Center renews partnership with HTA

WINTER PARK — The Winter Park Competition Center has once again partnered with Headwaters Trails Alliance in support of local trails. The Comp Center’s world-renown Epic Singletrack Series, which begins this Saturday, will feature six different mountain bike races on six different routes throughout the summer months and the Center will donate a dollar for each race entry to HTA. Last year, that amounted to around $1500 contributed to help support HTA’s mission of maintaining Grand County Trails.

As HTA has recently assumed management of the local Adopt a Trail Program, it is taking the lead on maintaining many of the forest service trails used for the race courses. HTA assists the Town of Winter Park’s Trail Crew on their newly constructed in-town trails which are also used for race course routes.

The Epic Singletrack Series is operated under a special-use permit of the U.S. Forest Service, and some of the race proceeds are paid out for use of those trails. Race directors decided to go above and beyond, contributing additional proceeds to HTA.

“We are extremely thankful for the generosity and support provided by the Competition Center. They have become invaluable partners in our collaborative trail maintenance program,” stated Maura McKnight, HTA Executive Director.

HTA will be hosting International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) the first weekend in August, with planned activities, including trail work scheduled throughout the weekend. The activities will be offered through a collaborative of U.S. Forest Service, Town of Winter Park and Grand Mountain Bike Alliance (GMBA). The Winter Park Competition Center is helping to recruit volunteers for the trail work portion of the weekend, scheduled for Sat. August 2.
