The Walk for Wilderness set to take place from 9-11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 is focused on and geared for children. It will be a great opportunity to share the wilderness with any children in your life.
The walk will feature a short hike in the area behind Hideaway Park, a little “wilderness” in town. A “Nature Hunt” will be part of the experience with children seeing how many natural items they can find on a given list and answering questions about the wilderness.
Prizes will be awarded for the most items found, interesting flowers identified and animals and birds seen or heard.
Hikers will meet on Sunday at 9 a.m. near the restrooms in Hideaway Park, Winter Park. Participants may bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the walk.
The Grand County Wilderness Group and U.S. Forest Service are sponsoring the hike as part of their celebration of 50 years of wilderness in the United States.
