Middle Park advances to volleyball regionals

The Middle Park volleyball team finished the regular season with four consecutive wins and they hope to keep the momentum going into the 3A Regional Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 2, in Gunnison.

Middle Park, the 31st seed overall for the state playoffs, will face sixth-seeded Gunnison at 9 a.m. followed by a match-up with 19th-seed Brush at 10:30 a.m. Gunnison and Brush will play at noon. The winner of the regional tournament advances to the state tournament.

The Lady Panthers (10-2 league, 15-8 overall) finished in a tie for second place in the Frontier League.

Junior co-captain Mary Acord was hopeful going into the weekend’s games, “Gunnison has two really good hitters and we are hoping to shut them down first and we just have to go out right away or else we will go into a lull.” She explained, “We get to this point in a match where (our opponents) get a couple points and we stop playing our game. We just start going downhill.”

Acord added, “When we talk we play better as a team.”
