Taste of Broadway hits Grand Lake
Ryan Summerlin July 26, 2012
Broadway star and RMRT alum Carey Anderson has been trying to prepare herself for her first glimpse of the Rep’s new theatre in Grand Lake. “I just know I’m going to cry,” she jokes. “RMRT has always been a home for me, and to know they have accomplished something so wonderful, it’s inspiring, really.” Since her summer in Grand Lake in 2000, Ms. Anderson has enjoyed quite a career on Broadway, appearing in Tony-award winning hits like Mamma Mia and Avenue Q. Now she returns to Grand Lake to perform this Sunday at the Rep’s annual Cabaret, a one-night-only event that raises money for the theatre’s general operating fund.
Carey is joined by fellow alum and Broadway diva Elizabeth Stanley, who has built an impressive New York resume, appearing in Cry-Baby, Million Dollar Quartet, and the Broadway revivals of Company and Merrily We Roll Along. But this won’t be the first return visit for these two rising stars. Both Ms. Stanley and Ms. Anderson brought their talents to Grand Lake in 2010 to help raise money for the construction of RMRT’s new theatre complex. Ms. Stanley is just as excited to return to her roots. “Getting the opportunity to visit the new theatre is one thing, but to have the chance to perform there is the greatest honor,” she said.
Those attending the Cabaret this Sunday can expect an incredible show, as the Broadway alums join the RMRT Company to perform with a 14-piece orchestra on the new stage. Following the concert, attendees will enjoy a gourmet menu by O-A Bistro, a wine bar and beer from the Grand Lake Brewing Company. The real show begins after the food course however, when the RMRT Company hosts an impressive silent and live auction. The silent auction consists of local artwork, goods from Grand Lake merchants, and various Grand County goods and experiences. The live auction boasts a variety of private concerts and events, hosted and performed by the 2012 Company. Last year’s free Les Miserables concert was just one of the auction items in 2011, and sold out in a single day. Patrons attending this year’s auction can expect items of equal grandeur. Like every RMRT fundraiser, all of the auction proceeds benefit the General Operating Fund, and are 100% tax deductible.
The RMRT Cabaret begins on Sunday, July 29th, at 5:30pm. Doors open at 5:00pm. Select tickets are still available, and can be purchased by calling the RMRT Box Office at (970) 627-3421 or online at www.RockyMountainRep.com.
