UPDATED: Motocyclist dies after crash

11:29 a.m., July 3 — A motorcyclist involved in a crash on U.S. Highway 40 near the entrance to the Mary Jane ski area has died.

Police said 56-year-old Michael Maner of Austin, Texas, passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver.

Maner’s motorcycle struck a car just before noon on Wednesday, July 2. He was airlifted to Denver with severe head injuries and was listed in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon.

As of press time, no charges have been filed.

Fraser-Winter Park Police Chief Glen Trainor said he expected a lengthy investigation as police still needed to interview witnesses and reconstruct the scene of the accident.

“There’s probably nothing pending imminently at this point,” Trainor said.

The Grand County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Drugs and/or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the crash.

No one else was injured in the crash, which shut down both lines of U.S. Highway 40 for about an hour.
