The Winter Park Town Council passed a motion to accept the transit bus designs put forth by the Community Transit Design Committee and Transit Manager Michael Koch during their October 4 meeting. Studio Six, a graphic design company from Longmont, did the artwork for the bus designs.

The council passed the motion to accept the design for The Lift, but still has to iron-out details regarding the cost benefits of using vinyl wraps or paint, or a combination of both (the most likely option).

Koch said the Transit Committee has launched the first phase of the RideHop application that allows riders to see where exactly the busses are using a GPS mapping system.

Out of three different options narrowed down by the Transit Committee, they decided to go with a version of the “Peaks Concept” logo scheme. The Peaks design is intended to portray colors that represent four seasons, as the Fraser Valley aims to be a place that people visit and live year-round, not just in ski season. The committee decided that the four seasons were most clearly represented in the Peaks design. They determined that the paint scheme shows the best contrast of colors and that the orange stands out well, especially as you see the bus coming toward you. The committee felt the design most accurately expressed the many colors and angles that are so representative of our community.

There were several other reasons for choosing the design:

It is very unique, the logo is easy to read, the colors are similar to the community branding palette, its vibrancy, it has a fun look and will look great driving down the big wide main street, according to the committee.

The committee recommended slight changes to the design including adding the tagline “Winter Park and Beyond.”

They will consider adding the tagline to the back of the bus, incorporating green and blue in the signage, and adding more dimensionality to the signs.

Studio Six is currently making some slight alterations to the design to accommodate the changes the committee wanted to see in this new brand.

Koch said he is working on an informational packet about the transit system to distribute to businesses that provide lodging, reservations, ski services, etc. He is also looking into having a transit open house to display the new designs.
