Wounded warriors fundraiser and barbecue
Ryan Summerlin August 9, 2012
The call to support our military troops on a local level is being offered today, Friday, Aug. 10, at City Market in Granby.
Forward Operating Base of Summit County is hosting a Burger, Brats and Hot Dogs Bar-B-Q Fundraiser from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. A silent auction with 40 items donated by local businesses will also be available for bidding.
FOB is a nonprofit that invites wounded and active soldiers and their families on outdoor adventures throughout Colorado. Their mission is to help military personnel in their transition from active duty to veteran status.
Fishing, rafting, paddle boarding and winter sports are used as therapy to assist soldiers returning from battlefields in Afghanistan with psychological and physical war wounds and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Soldiers are taken on three-day outdoor adventures to the beautiful lakes and rivers here in Grand County. Ten soldiers will be enjoying a stand up paddle board outing on Sept. 16 on Grand Lake.
The nonprofit was started by U.S. Army Airborne Retired Master Sgt. Tom Torres. All the proceeds are used for the soldier’s food, lodging, and travel.
