Write an essay, win a bike

GRANBY – Ink slingers and wordsmiths could score a new set of wheels for the summer.
Full Circle Cyclery is holding another essay contest, awarding a front suspension mountain bike or comfort bike to the winner. This year’s essay topic: “Bikes save energy and bikes burn energy.” It’s the cycle shop’s second year holding the writing competition. The 2012 contest was limited to high-schoolers, but this year submissions will be welcomed from all ages.
“I think it’s a fun thing for everyone in Grand County,” said V.J. Valente, who runs Full Circle Cyclery with his wife Sue. “It’s always interesting to see everyone’s different ideas on cycling.”
Typed essays at least 500 words in length should be submitted via email to email@example.com. Submissions must include the writer’s full name, mailing address and phone number. Although the official due date is listed on June 30, 2013, the Valentes will accept essays until July 2. They’ll announce the winner during Full Circle Cylcery’s Fourth of July celebration.
The Valentes received around 35 submissions last year. High school senior Sabina Legas received the 2012 prize. Seasoned Sky-Hi writers will help judge this year’s contest, which is sponsored by Norco bicycles.
